Pheasant hunt
The pheasant hunting season begins on the first days of October in Hungary. Walking-up shooting is a popular type of hunting for companies of 3-8 friends. With two to three companions, game collectors and well-working Hungarian pointing dogs, it’s convenient to hunt down suitable canal shores, bushy areas, reeds and forest patches, with nice results.
Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)
In the past centuries, many pheasant species have been settled or bred in Hungary (their original habitat is Asia), these species have been mixing with each other, and this way a hybrid called “hunting pheasant” was created.
These hunting pheasants prefer loose sandy soils, since they like to take a bath in the dust, they like to stay under 400 m above sea level, and they prefer flat and slightly sloping landscapes. Their optimal living environment is the varied, woody-bushy landscape, where they can find hiding places easily.
Pheasant hunting in Hungary
The pheasant hunting season begins on the first days of October in Hungary. Walking-up shooting is a popular type of hunting for companies of 3-8 friends. With two to three companions, game collectors and well-working Hungarian pointing dogs, it’s convenient to hunt down suitable canal shores, bushy areas, reeds and forest patches, with nice results. At some of the hunting areas it’s possible to shoot partridges, semi-wild ducks and brown hare during walking-up shooting, so this type of hunting becomes even more fun and the preys even more varied.
During traditional driven shooing the hunter group of 6-10 people covers an area with rich vegetation and the beaters begin driving upon an agreed signal. At pheasant huntings with more than a hundred or thousand birds daily bag, experienced rifle loaders and game collectors accompanied by Hungarian pointing dogs are assisting the hunters.

The people at Naturhun work on organising hunts every day; they make arrangements with our guests and arrange the hunting areas – they are busy working in the office in one moment and get in their cars to go to the field in the next, and since we would like to record and share our hunting experiences. The only thing I like more than writing blogs is going on hunts. You will see why if you bear with me.
